About me
I am a member of the Philadelphia Association set up by RD Laing and colleagues in the 1960s to challenge accepted ways of understanding and treating mental illness and emotinal distress. Laing was very much part of the sceptical radition in philosophy and the Philadelphia Association continues that today. Scepticism requires that we constantly question what we know, thatwe be thoughtful, reflective, paying attention to things before us. Its goal is what the Greeks would call human flourishing.
My first training was at the Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies. I am registered with the UKCP.
I have been working as a psychotherapist since 1990. Since then I have worked at Open Door, a psychotherapy service for young adults and adolescents, and also at the Arbours Crisis Centre, a residential facility for severely distressed adults. I now work privately, with individuals and with couples, and as a house therapist in one of the Philadelphia Association’s community households
